Song review - Pompeii by Bastille - 4/5

I have never really done any reviews but many blogs I have been looking at write reviews so i thought I should give it a go.

I am very open minded to different styles of music and enjoy a variety of genres (excluding dub step - which i strongly dislike) . Being a dancer I  get to dance to many different styles and really get to 'feel' the music and I also do singing lessons so i get to sing many different styles as well. So i really get to experience many styles of music.

Anyways back to the point... In my Jazz class we have just started learning a lyrical jazz routine to Pompeii by Bastille and i fell in love with the song straight away. As we started learning the routine i felt i could really connect to the song and feel the music with in me.

There is just something about the way the song is put together in different sections with different tempo's that I love so much. The intro is amazing and gets you really excited as it starts to build then the vocals sung by Dan Smith start and you instantly are taken away with his beautiful English accent. The slow percussion rhythms in the background compliment his voice stunningly and as everything starts to speed up a new section starts with the lyrics "And the walls kept tumbling down In the city that we love Great clouds roll over the hills Bringing darkness from above" (which by the way is my favourite part of the song) and you are immediately taken away with the song and all of it's beauty and before you know it the chorus has ended and you once again are lead into a new slower section that is once again complimented by the synth and percussion. The rest of the song consists of repeats of the chorus and slower parts that build up the energy of the song perfectly.

It's just such an easy song to listen to and is great to dance to! If you haven't heard it already i definitely recommend giving it a listen!

Lesson's learned from my horse riding camp

Yesterday I cam home from a 5 day horse riding camp and I had the most amazing time! I had never been a horse person and had never really been horse riding but while on the camp I loved every single bit of it! I embraced every part of horse riding from getting the horses ready and cleaning out there shoes to looking like a character off The Saddle Club.

The whole experience made me realise that as a person you don't have to have just one thing that is prominent about you and that makes you you. There are so many wonderful things that people can enjoy and do that makes them who they are. These things can be complete opposites and yet the person is still balanced and fulfilled with their life. It's one of the best things about being a human being and having an individual personality and view on the world.

For example, Before going on the camp I  thought that I would never love being with horses so much and everything that goes a long with it. I thought of myself as a very academic focused girl who spent most of her time at dancing or production as well as having a love and passion for fashion and beauty. I never thought of myself as an "outdoorsy" girl but i was pleasantly surprised at how easily part of me became so in love with horses and horse riding and who actually enjoyed cleaning the horses.

It made me realise that I don't have to be just one sort of girl and have one thing that defines me, I can be whatever i want to be and that is a lesson that is very valuable. It's the things that we love and the things that we do that makes us who we are and that is something that no one can ever take away from you.

If you too would love to experience the amazing things i did in the past week here is the link to the company I went with ... http://coonawarratrailrides.com.au

You have to think big to be big!

At the moment I am in the process of contacting lots of different magazines and  companies to try and get advice and work experience. I want to achieve my dream's so much that I will try everything I can do to  achieve them! My parents are so supportive and happy to fly me interstate to do work  experience with magazines which I am so excited about!  I have also been researching how the editors of magazine's like Instyle, Vogue and Shop till you drop have got to where they are now and what i have picked up is to get as much work experience as possible and to gain as many contacts as you can.

In the meantime I will try to practise my writing and improve on it. I will write about life experiences, my passions, current news events, my opinions on things and random pieces I might write for school. I am also going to the USA at the end of the year and on a french exchange next year so hopefully I will have lots to write about!

So enjoy...

A little quote from Rent

There's only now
There's only here
Give in to love
Or live in fear
No other path
No other way

A Realisation

Right now as I write this I am sitting in my Peter Alexander PJ’s watching the live stream of the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival while eating Cadbury mint chocolate, could life get any better?

While watching the live stream I have come to the realisation that I definitely want to work in the fashion industry as a magazine writer/editor and I will do whatever it takes to get there. The fact that I almost cried when the new Carla Zampatti collection came down the runway or when I spotted a pair of Louboutins could be an indication of how passionate I am about everything in the world of fashion.

At the moment I am in the process of e-mailing numerous websites such as Mamamia and Fashion Magazines about work experience and any advice they can give me to help me get noticed in the fashion/ journalism industry. I just want to get noticed and involved so that I get a real feel for it and can work my way up to one day becoming an editor of a magazine like Shop till you drop, InStyle, Harper's Bazar or even Vogue. I want to achieve this dream so much and I know that if I work my ass of I will achieve and no one will be able to stop me.
